There are a number of known benefits that have been associated with sleeping naked. Similarly, sleeping commando also has its own benefits like reduced itchiness, enhanced comfort and much more.

So, is it okay to not wear underwear? Let’s have a deeper look at some of the benefits to understand this better.

1. Improved Air Circulation and Hygiene

Wearing underwear can create a non- breathable environment down there. Our genitals need to breathe and ditching underwear at night can be a good way to provide some ventilation after a long day of being confined.

The crotch area tends to be more humid and damp due to sweat. Sleeping commando can ensure that the genitals are dry, clean and aired out.

Bedtime is the perfect time to let your entire body relax, including those parts typically hidden under underwear.

2. Better Sperm Health for Men

For men, sleeping without their briefs may contribute to better sperm health. According to research, wearing underwear increases the temperature of the crotch which can impact sperm quality.

Sleeping without underwear can be a great way to keep the scrotum at a cool temperature that enhances sperm health.

Studies also suggest that sleeping without underwear may impact male fertility in a positive manner.

In 2018, the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology published an alarming study.  The results showed that the men who wore boxers at night had higher sperm counts than those who wore tight underwear.

3. Improved Sleep Quality

According to the Sleep Foundation, ditching underwear can improve the quality of our sleep. Our body temperature drops when we sleep. This is a key factor in determining the quality of sleep. This is an important part of the circadian rhythm, our body’s natural clock.

The cooling down of our body is a way to signal the brain that it’s time to sleep. So sleeping commando can lower your body temperature, helping you to fall asleep faster and better.

Don’t believe us?

Let’s see what experts have to say.  Dr. Loyola García-Atance, a Gynecologist who specializes in intimate dermatology said, “Proper body temperature helps induce sleep and maintain it throughout the night. By improving rest and sleep quality, intellectual performance is improved.”

Additionally, sleeping without underwear can be more comfortable generally for both men and women.

4. Reduced Chances of Yeast Infection for Women

As mentioned above, the crotch area tends to be more humid naturally. It is natural for women to experience vaginal discharge that can increase moisture build up.

This moist environment is ideal for bacteria and yeast to thrive, increasing the risks of getting vaginal infections. In fact, medical sources directly relate sweat and moisture as key factors in increasing infection risks.

By skipping the panties, you’re allowing your genitals to breathe. This will also help in reducing moisture, potentially lowering the risk of infections.

I remember talking to a friend of mine who struggled with chronic yeast infections. For her, ditching her panties during sleep changed everything. She used to feel irritation and a constant urge to itch down there. However, after a few days of sleeping without her panties on, she felt less moist and itchy, improving her condition drastically.

3 Tips to feel comfortable sleeping without underwear

If you are convinced that sleeping without underwear is the thing for you, here are some tips that can help you get started.

1. Choose the Right Bedding

Investing in the right bedding that is soft and made of breathable fabrics like cotton can make a huge difference in keeping your skin dry and aired out. It can help you feel more comfortable and regulate the temperature of your skin and overall body.

These fabrics help make your experience of going commando better.

On the other hand, sleeping without underwear on synthetic fabrics can trap heat and moisture, increasing the chances of getting an infection.

2. Maintain Good Hygiene

Even though sleeping without underwear can improve overall hygiene, it’s still important to maintain good personal hygiene. Changing your bed sheets regularly can help in maintaining hygiene to keep your bits fresh and clean.

You can also make sure that you shower before you go to bed. This will not only make you feel fresh and clean down there, but will also keep your bed sheets clean for longer.

Keeping the area clean and dry is key to reaping the benefits of sleeping commando.

3. Start Gradually

If this is a new practice that you are thinking of adopting, then the best way is to start gradually.  Try it out once and see how your body responds and adjust accordingly.

For me personally, my skin rubbing with bed sheets was a very uncomfortable experience at first. I remember I couldn’t sleep the first night of trying. However, after a few attempts, I did find it extremely liberating. Now I cannot sleep with my underwear on.

See what works best for you.

So if you ask yourself again, is it okay to not wear underwear while sleeping? The answer is absolutely yes! It all comes down to personal preference and comfort.

Going commando at night does offer a range of benefits from improved hygiene and sperm health to enhanced sleep quality.

If you are still deciding whether sleeping without underwear is the thing for you or not, giving it a try might be worth it. Everyone’s body is different– what may work wonders for someone else might not be effective for your body.

Give it a shot, listen to your body and do what works for you.
