The Merge Mystery Rank 1: Kamakhya Devi Temple

Located in Guwahati, Assam, Kamakhya Devi goddess is one of the most revered feminine goddesses in Hinduism. It celebrates womanhood and feminism as the goddess bleeds every year for a month during the monsoon season. She is also known as Maa Kameshwari.

The most shocking thing about this temple is that this shrine is located on a hill next to the Brahmaputra river, which turns blood red for three days in June every year. That’s why it’s associated with the belief that the goddess Kamakhya bleeds during those times.

There is no science behind the water turning red. Hence, the temple is wrapped in layers of folklore and legend.

This story might send chills down your spine so be prepared. It is one of the most famous South Indian temples that was built back in the 500 B.C. The main topic of interest here among the people of Kerala is that there are six underground vaults inside the temple.

This information came to light in July 2011 and people found out that the treasure is worth around Rs. 10,000 crores. The treasure contains 7 kg gold coins, 9 foot long jewelry, a golden statue of an elephant, a statue of Mahavishnu made of diamonds and gold, and many other extravagant items.

Trust me, this is one of those mysterious mythological stories that will make you want to visit the vault because they are heavily protected and it cannot be accessed by the general public. Whoever enters the vault, a curse awaits them.

Legend has it that Lord Shiva gave the queen who built this temple a weapon that can turn stone into vapor. The temple is said to have been constructed using that same weapon which now lies beneath and no one can reach it. Another thought-provoking mystery some people believe is that this temple was made by aliens.

The belief is that Om Banna’s spirit keeps the travelers safe.

There’s one more legend surrounding this temple. Back during the reign of Akbar, the Great, he visited the temple to verify its authenticity after hearing of its myth.
